Coop Envy

These little beauties belong to Heather Bullard

She got a nice mix of Rhode Island Red, Easter Egger, Buff Orpington and Barred Plymouth Rock.

Their "Hen Palace" was built by her husband. What craftsmanship!

Egg Yuck!

Okay -so, that is not a cherry tomato slice you are seeing in the yolk and NO, I did not eat it. We think one or both of the wyandottes were laying these strange, on the inside, looking eggs. We got 2 total last week and haven't seen any like them since, thank goodness.

After throwing out the bad eggs (Jessica wouldn't even let me give them to the dogs) I had a hard time eating any eggs last week. I'm back to semi- normal now and had some for breakfast this morning.

first 1/2 dozen!

Madalyn, our black star, Pippi & Lacey our two golden wyandottes are the first to lay.
I am so proud!

This morning Madalyn was in her nest box

She was preparing for her first egg!

After about 40 min. lots of scratching & panting...

Her first egg was laid!

After she ate some food

somthing wicked this way comes

The ease & romance of summer has me truly in love with chicken keeping.I like getting up and letting the girls out in calm of morning and tucking them in the warmth of dusk. Now that the days getting shorter and the leaves staring to turn it has me wondering what the winter has in store for us.
